Affordable skiing in Canada? No, it’s not a myth….

A ski holiday to Canada is less than you think (Yes, even Whistler).

A common theme we hear when asked for quotes is that skiing in Canada is expensive; well, to be frank, it is not always and in fact, sometimes it can be a lot cheaper than you would imagine. There are plenty of great deals to be had and, particularly if you are flexible with travel dates, you can even ski Canada for a similar price to Europe. Even Whistler, voted North America’s #1 resort year after year,  isn’t always as expensive as people believe either. Below are a few of our favourite great deals to be had in Canada:

Panorama.

We hear the term hidden gem a lot in the travel industry but it really does apply to Panorama Mountain Resort. A beautiful resort, located just 3 hours from Calgary, Panorama offers fantastic skiing for all abilities with a delightful compact village with superb self-catering accommodation. There are the great hot pools, located at Panorama Springs but which all guests can access, the more modern Peaks and Summit Lodge, and Taynton Lodge being our favourite for couples, with its hot tub in the back courtyard. All are no more than a few minutes stroll from the slopes and with direct flights from London to Calgary and 50% discounts available for early bookings, the resort really does offer fantastic value for money.

Panorama Ski Resort

A guide price* for late February for 7 nights in a Studio would be from £944 per person for flights, transfers and accommodation. At that price and with 6 day lift passes costing just £209 per person, how is that not a great deal?!

Banff

Banff is just a great place to be, even without skiing. So, imagine staying in this delightful Canadian town with the slopes a free bus ride away. Popular in the Summer due to its picturesque setting, we especially love it in the winter with the three great ski areas – Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Mount Norquay – all included on one ticket and all accessed by the ski shuttles; you can also hire a car if you prefer. In recent years we have noticed the downtown accommodation standards rising considerably offering better quality accommodation options and at quite frankly ridiculously low prices. A few honourable mentions go to The Elk and Avenue for offering a modern, boutique hotel in a great location with a great price point, The Moose offering a quirkier option and The Royal Banff Canadian for a quieter, more luxurious stay.

Skiing at Banff Mount Norquay

A guide price* for late February based on 7 nights starts from just £975 per person for flights, transfers and 7 nights’ accommodation at The Elk and Avenue. Lift passes are also great value from only £299 per person, including all three ski areas.

Whistler

Whistler is simply one of the best resorts in the world let alone Canada. So much terrain to choose from for all abilities; you will not get bored skiing here!  A bustling, lively village with a wide variety of accommodation options not of all which will break the bank. The Delta Whistler Village Suites have fantastic suites offering unbelievable value for larger rooms and The Crystal Lodge is a great, centrally located option. There are also fantastic early booking offers on lots of the higher-end properties such as The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, The Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa and The Four Seasons Resort, to name but a few.

Gondola at Whistler Resort

With the great early booking offers at the Hilton you can stay 7 nights in a studio for just £1149 per person at the end of February, including flights, transfers and accommodation.  A 6-day lift pass is currently £467 per person which for the amount of terrain you have is great value.

*All guide prices are based on prices as of 03/04/2020 for the 20/21 season. Based on two sharing and including return flights in economy class with Air Canada from London Heathrow, return scheduled transfers from airport to resort and accommodation as specified. Offers and prices subject to availability and change at time of booking.

So there you have it; Canada has some of the best skiing at some of the most affordable prices. That over-expensive myth is officially debunked, here and now!
