Add a touch of west coast living to your Whistler ski holiday and head to Tofino for whale watching, rainforests and beach walks. From mid-March, the great Gray Whale herd swims by Tofino on their northbound migration, and you can be out on the high seas to witness it!
Easily accessible from Whistler, just pick up a car at the end of your skiing and drive over to Tofino (about 5 1/2 hours including a ferry crossing) where we recommend a 2/3-night stay.

Day 1
Whistler Ski Resort to Tofino
Collect your hire car and leave Whistler after breakfast, and drive to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal (approx. 1.5 hours) where you will take the ferry to Nanaimo (crossing approx 1.5 hours).
On arrival in Nanaimo, you will take the scenic drive across Vancouver Island to the west coast and your accommodation in Tofino where you will spend the next three nights.

Day 2-3
Tofino
You will spend the next two days exploring the area and doing a whale watch excursion or maybe a visit to the hot springs (from April). Long Beach is fantastic for beach walks and watching the rolling surf.

Day 4-5
Tofino to Vancouver
You will head back to Vancouver today, heading back to the east coast and taking the ferry once again from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay, or exploring more of southern Vancouver Island and taking the ferry from Swartz Bay (just outside of Victoria) to Tsawwassen (45 mins from Vancouver).
On arrival in Vancouver, drop your hire car downtown and spend the next two day exploring this beautiful city.

Day 6
Vancouver
Today you will be heading back to Vancouver airport for your flight back to the UK.
